Congress candidate showed birth of son in campaign advertisement to talk about right to abortion

Katie Darling was seven months pregnant with her second child when she decided to run for Congress,

A decision she says was forged by a Supreme Court decision in June to overturn a 1973 ruling in Roe v. Wade, which had guaranteed the constitutional right to abortion.

Now, a month before election day, the darling, 36, has gone viral with a campaign ad featuring footage of the birth of her son, Ollie.

Darling, who is running as the Democratic nominee in Louisiana's First Congressional District, told "Good Morning America" 

that she wanted to show very personal footage of her son's September 14 birth in order to demonstrate her right to choose a woman. support can be highlighted. ,

"I wanted to share that as the person in the hospital bed, I should be the one making the decisions about my medical care, no one in DC or in Baton Rogue," Darling said.

"Sharing that kind of intimate moment I think helps communicate how private it is and how legislators don't have to be in that room with me."

Darling, of St. Tammany Parish, said the clips of her in the hospital giving birth are also intended to show "how serious pregnancy really is."
